Fall Quarter Reflection

At the beginning of the quarter, I wrote some goals for my freshmen fall quarter. I wanted to get a good GPA and manage my time well. As we get to the end of the quarter, I have time to reflect on whether or not I actually reached these goals. I am anticipating getting a 3.5 GPA, which is lower than I had hoped but I do still have time to get this up throughout my college career and this is before finals so I still have time to get my grades up. My time management has not gone well at all this quarter. I constantly find myself waiting until the last minute to finish an assignment, which makes it appear either rushed or not satisfactory. There have been many nights that I stay up until 3am working on school work due the next morning. I want to better plan out how I want to spend my time so that I can avoid this and not have to lose sleep over assignments I could have done earlier.

Something that surprised myself in my first quarter in honors was all the resources that are offered to honors students. In Honors 230, I was struggling with writing the papers for the class. Repeatedly the professor was emailing me to seek help by utilizing writing resources. When I went to see a counselor they were able to tell me the different writing resources offered on campus, which has helped my writing and helped me get better grades on my papers. I was also able to talk to an advisor about what classes I should take this winter quarter, and she was able to point me in the right direction of what I should take later in my college and honors career. These resources that the honors program has was very beneficial to me and was quite a surprise to learn about all the things honors has to offer.

The University of Washington is exactly what I expected it to be. I have grown to really enjoy how it is far enough from my house that I can feel detached from Auburn but close enough that if I want to I can always drive home for the weekend. I really have grown to love the spirit and pride UW students have. They are all really motivated to succeed which is very inspiring for me.

Something that I learned about in honors 100 that I want to learn more about is experiential projects and study abroad opportunities offered through the honors program. After doing the honors assignment that investigates these things, I want to look more for opportunities that I myself could do for experiential learning. I think that it would be a fun experience and something that I would learn a lot from.

Some of my goals for the end of my freshmen year is to nail down time management. I have always known how big of an issue time management is for college, especially since it is easy to get sidetracked on what you are doing. My fall quarter I have really been failing in managing my time well. I feel as if I do not have any free time. I plan on buying a planner and planning out my day to try and free up more time to work on my school work and have free time. A goal for the end of my college years is to have a good GPA and intern experience so that I will be able to apply to grad school. Whether it's for physical therapy school or medical school or whatever, I want to have the experiences I need for me to get into the best school I can.
